Andrew Farnsworth - Bio PDF Print E-mail
Andrew Farnsworth holds court on acoustic and fretless guitars and his own invention, the "Do-jo", while doubling as the band's lead vocalist and MC. He has performed extensively, composes prolifically, and continues to pioneer original playing techniques and explore new sonic capabilities for his instruments. When he's not satiating the legendary Mectapus seafood craving, Andrew is beginning the long road to a PhD conducting cutting-edge research in nocturnal bird migration.

Farnsworth Face

According to the nebulous and quixotic Mr. Lieberman, "if an egg met a doughnut and convinced both that doughnut and itself that they get along pretty well, this is how I would describe Mr. Farnsworth." To begin, Andrew Farnsworth, cowboy for the 1990s, holds fast in the rushing torrent that is reality by excessively and obsessively organizing those which are the multitudes of Mectapus, reading subversive literature, writing subversive literature, traveling subversively, and birding. Formerly classified as a leafy, green vegetable, he has taken his rightful place in the budding Mectopian democracy as the all powerful ruler of everything that is, was and ever shall be. While not performing semi-wicked feats of wonder and rhythm on his guitar, Mr. Farnsworth errs on the quiet side of life, preferring to pursue his lifelong journey involving everything avian. During outdoor performances with Mectapus, Andrew Farnsworth, supermarket to the birds, has observed a total of 64 species of birds including but not limited to: Common Loon, Great Blue Heron, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, Merlin, Greater Yellowlegs, Short-billed Dowitcher, Ring-billed Gull, Cliff Swallow, Least Flycatcher, Fish Crow, Tennesse Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Scarlet Tanager and White-throated Sparrow.

As a freshman at Cornell University in 1991, Farnsworth became acquainted with one Dan "The Man" Janis who lived across the hall from his cell in the University Hall #3, Class of 1922 dormitory. It was Mr. Janis who introduced Mr. Farnsworth, the plastic samurai, to Mr. Peter Dougan, former Mir cosmonaut, during an unsanctioned, impromptu and quickly terminated (and rather loud) jam session in a lounge space of the dormitory. A quick and lasting bond began here, as well as a pattern of making too much noise in the dorms, and the seeds of Mectapus were planted.

As a member of Mectapus, Mr. Farnsworth, the primary constituent of dark matter, terrorizes other members of the band with his organizational plans and members of the audience with excessive body movement and contorted facial expressions. He chooses his battles wisely and speaks only the when speaking. He wields an Oneida, the strange and wonderful fretless guitar, and the crazy "Do-Jo" (resophonic banjo) as constructed, conceived and sanctioned by Mr. Aceto, Mr. Dan Hoffman and Mr. Farnsworth.

As a member of the soaring knights of melody, Andrew Farnsworth, benthic organism, battles side by with Peter Dougan, benevolent dictator, against the low frequencies and the bottom end. In tandem with Eric Aceto he slays the shadow-silence of the cosmos. However, his position is some times compromised by his addiction to sushi, this addiction occasionally giving him occasion to deal with the dark forces of rhythm. It is moments such at these during which Farnsworth might be seen actually defining the control group for what has become synonymous with the sushi factor. He is assigned sushi factor 9; he also holds the title Most Excellent Wasabi Warrior of the Highest Class of Excellence and reigns supreme over Joseph A. Palermo after his overwhelming victory over Mr. Palermo in the First Wasabi War, during which the ringleader of the dark forces of rhythm was dealt a nearly fatal, nasal blow!

Recent history (c.2001-2002) of Andrew finds him relaxing behind a computer monitor in Manhattan while analyzing bird populations and making trouble for National Audubon Society. He finished an MS Zoology at Clemson University in the deep dark south, and this work (fine by his accounts, unreviewed by others) was entitled "The Density of Nocturnal Bird Migration: A Comparison of Doppler Radar and Acoustic Measures."
